PTO and Sick carry over (up to the caps below); Personal resets to zero. Prior balances are saved to history before anything changes. The editing window is how long staff can still change a pay period after it ends — you are never locked out.

Not included: the program itself, which is kept in a code repository, and the server's configuration file holding the manager PIN and the mail password. Rebuilding a server from scratch means reinstalling those two by hand — the staff data all comes back from a snapshot.
